CAD & Digital Manufacturing

From photo, sketch or component to CAD file.

We create a clean CAD file from your documents – as a STEP model for 3D components, with an STL file for 3D printing if required. Before handover, we check the geometry and the agreed dimensions.

For contours, templates and simple individual parts – no technical drawing needed.

What we create for you

  • Contours & templates

We digitise flat shapes from a photo, sketch or template – for laser cutting, cutting, milling or plotting.

e.g. a template, a gasket contour, an insert with its counterpart and joint

    Typical output
DXF, SVG or PDF on request
  • 3D components & spare parts

We reconstruct an existing component as a CAD model from photos and dimensions – or design a simple part to your specifications.

e.g. a holder, clip, cover, adapter or a simple spare part that is no longer available, for non-critical applications

    Typical output
STEP, with STL for 3D printing if required
  • Modifying CAD files

    after review

Already have a file? We review it and make changes as far as is technically feasible.

e.g. moving a hole, changing a dimension, adding to a contour

    Typical output
usually in the format of the original file (DXF or STEP)

Quick or Precision – how much needs to be measured

Not every part needs the same data basis. What matters is what has to fit later.

Quick

photos + a few dimensions

For simple, non-critical components. You send photos and a few dimensions. We use the measured dimensions directly; the rest of the shape is derived from your photos and documents.

  • little measuring effort for you
  • suitable when the shape matters more than a precise fit

Precision

with an individual measurement drawing

For components that have to fit or perform a specific function. You receive an individual measurement drawing and measure exactly the points that matter.

  • functionally important points are recorded explicitly
  • you fill in the measurement drawing on screen or print it out

Both routes lead to a clean CAD file. They differ in the data basis, not in the care taken. We recommend the right route after the free feasibility check – you don’t have to choose yourself. If it turns out that an important dimension cannot be determined reliably from photos, we suggest Precision.

What we need from you

  • photos of the part or your template – unedited originals, no screenshots
  • a short description: what is the part, what do you need it for, what has to fit exactly?
  • for Quick: two dimensions in two directions, e.g. length and width – we will send you brief instructions
  • for Precision: additionally, the dimensions from your individual measurement drawing
  • for file modifications: your file and the change you want
  • your confirmation that you are permitted to use the template for this order

You don’t need to create a technical drawing or know the file format.

How your project works

  1. Enquiry

Briefly describe what you need and what it is for.

  2. Submit your documents

After your initial no-obligation enquiry and our first review, we can provide a personal upload link for your photos, sketches or files.

  3. Free feasibility check

We check whether your project is suitable, whether Quick or Precision fits and whether any information is missing. If necessary, you receive brief measuring instructions or an individual measurement drawing.

  4. Quotation

You receive a binding quotation. Chargeable work only begins once you have accepted it.

  5. Creation and checking

We create the CAD file and check it for clean geometry and the agreed dimensions.

  6. Receive your files

You receive a draft with an inspection report for your approval. We then provide your files via your personal link.

Quality & checking

We check the CAD files we create for clean geometry and the agreed dimensions.

  • For 3D orders, the STEP file remains the geometric basis; an STL file is derived from it for the agreed purpose.
  • The inspection report shows for each important dimension whether it was measured, derived from photos or assumed.
  • The check concerns the file. It is not an approval for manufacture or use – we do not assess material, strength or suitability for your purpose.

Suitable projects

Contours, templates and simple individual parts such as holders, adapters, covers or simple spare parts are well suited.

Not every order is suitable for this service. We do not accept safety-critical components, components requiring approval or legally problematic components, for example:

  • safety-critical components, for example for brakes, steering, lifting or personal protection
  • components for medical use or aerospace
  • weapons, weapon parts and military applications
  • keys, lock cylinders and security technology
  • replicas of protected trademarks, designs or documents

We do not provide strength, FEM or CE certification. Approval for manufacture is not part of our service.

Frequently asked questions

What documents do I need?

Photos of the part or your template, a short description of its intended use and – depending on the order – a few dimensions or the dimensions from a measurement drawing that we send you. You don’t need a technical drawing.

What is the difference between Quick and Precision?

With Quick, photos and a few dimensions are enough; the rest of the shape is derived from the photos. With Precision, you use an individual measurement drawing to measure exactly the points that have to fit. In the inspection report, every important dimension is marked as measured, derived from photos or assumed. We recommend the right route after the check.

Which file formats will I receive?

For 3D parts, a STEP file as the CAD model, with an additional STL file for 3D printing if required. For contours, a DXF file, SVG or PDF on request. In addition, an inspection report as a PDF. Whether a part can be printed depends on factors such as the process, material and printer. We do not assess this.

Can any component be reconstructed?

No. We focus on simple individual parts. We do not take on complex freeform surfaces, assemblies or safety-critical parts. Whether your part is suitable is clarified in the free feasibility check.

Is the file approved for manufacture straight away?

No. We check the file for clean geometry and the agreed dimensions. We do not assess material, strength or suitability for your intended use.

Can I have existing CAD files modified?

Yes, after review. Send us your DXF or STEP file and describe the change. We will tell you whether and how it can be done.

Does Alexantis also create G-code or print parts?

No. We supply CAD and STL files. You can have the part printed yourself or by a service provider.

How do I submit photos and files?

After your initial no-obligation enquiry and our first review, we can provide a personal upload link for your documents. We provide the finished files to you the same way.
